Misbehaving USB audio adaptor seems to have interfered with other devices on the same hub

When the audio chip in my laptop started misbehaving I bought a generic USB audio adaptor (56, free shipping!, in 2009). Recently it started misbehaving, so I took it out, and the occasional problems I have had with other USB devices on the same hub have stopped.
