Elementary OS shows No sound device

I was wondering if you could help me.
I'm using eOS 5.1 which is based on 18.04 Ubuntu
My computer all of a sudden shows now sound device.
I have deleted and reinstalled asla
I have deleted and installed pulseaudio
I have deleted ~/.config/pulse
I'm not sure what to do.
My other ubuntu mate partition shows a device so it is a software problem. I don't want to wipe, and I have a $5 usb sound card to tie me over (and that works). But not sure how this happened or how to fix it.
I tried everything on the net.
