Large directory and files in home directory

I have been running a Slackware distro 14.X since 2013 but I still consider myself a newbie. My question today involves a recent backup I made of my Slackware installation on my NAS and I noticed when the files were copied from my ~ home directory and my user there was an extremely large size listed for a directory and it took a couple of days to back up the home directories.
[code}
robby@robrutrm:~/.local/share/.local-mail.directory/inbox$ ls -l
total 38180
drwxr-xr-x 2 robby users 4096 May 31 2014 cur/
drwxr-xr-x 2 robby users 39084032 Apr 8 22:01 new/
drwxr-xr-x 2 robby users 4096 Apr 8 22:01 tmp/
[/code]
When I cd into the new directory and run ls -l it takes forever to open up the files. When it finally opens up all the files are of file type "US file".
Does anyone have any idea what these files and/or directory is and if it can be deleted?latest?d=yIl2AUoC8zA latest?i=Xp5jZmbk0MY:CD6pty0LlJc:F7zBnMy latest?i=Xp5jZmbk0MY:CD6pty0LlJc:V_sGLiP latest?d=qj6IDK7rITs latest?i=Xp5jZmbk0MY:CD6pty0LlJc:gIN9vFwXp5jZmbk0MY
