Ubuntu 18.04 has no Activity Menu

Using Ubuntu 18.04 I have no activity menu. I'll try to post a screenshot. The super + A is supposed to open the activity menu but doesn't. "Super" + F does open a file browser as it's supposed to. Thus the "super" key apparently works but it's not defined for the Activity menu.
A number of other programs such as "Flameshot" to take screenshots [the the default didn't work] have never worked either.
