The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have officially assigned tight end Rob Gronkowski jersey No. 87, which he wore throughout his career with the New England Patriots, after acquiring him in a stunning trade, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
The number's previous owner in Tampa Bay, tight end Jordan Leggett, was given No. 81.
Leggett knew the change was inevitable but took it in stride:
Hey @RobGronkowski I'll give you #87 for 1 million.

When it's all said and done I'll probably have to pay Gronk to take my number...

Tom Brady is also keeping No. 12 with his new team after wide receiver Chris Godwin gifted the number to the legendary quarterback.
Brady and Gronkowski were shockingly reunited Tuesday after the latter ended his retirement and asked for a trade to the Buccaneers. The Patriots quickly granted their former star his wish, sending the 30-year-old and a seventh-round pick to Tampa Bay in exchange for a fourth-rounder.
