Day 2 NFL Mock Draft: Projecting picks for Rounds 2-3

With Thursday night's first-round selections in the books, theScore's Mike Alessandrini and Dan Wilkins project the picks on Day 2 of the NFL draft.

Round 233. Cincinnati Bengals - Josh Jones, OT, Houston

The Bengals must protect new franchise quarterback Joe Burrow if the reigning Heisman Trophy winner is to succeed in the NFL. Jones represents an instant upgrade over Bobby Hart at right tackle.

34. Indianapolis Colts (from WAS) - Denzel Mims, WR, Baylor

Mims sliding out of Round 1 is an ideal scenario for the Colts as they make their first pick of this draft. His blend of size and athleticism will make him a strong fit opposite T.Y. Hilton.

35. Detroit Lions - Yetur Gross-Matos, EDGE, Penn State

Frequently selected in the first round of mocks throughout this draft season, Gross-Matos fills a position of need on Matt Patricia's defense and is arguably the top available prospect here.

36. New York Giants - Xavier McKinney, S, Alabama

Considered by many to be the best safety in this draft, McKinney is a steal for the Giants early in the second round. The Alabama standout is a highly intelligent player who can line up at a number of different spots in the secondary.

37. New England Patriots (from LAC) - A.J. Epenesa, EDGE, Iowa

Bill Belichick loves his big, powerful edge rushers, and Epenesa fits that mold. The Patriots struggled to get to the quarterback in 2019.

38. Carolina Panthers - Kristian Fulton, CB, LSU

The Panthers continue to add on the defensive side of the ball with Fulton, whose ability in man coverage should make him an instant impact player at the next level.

39. Miami Dolphins - D'Andre Swift, RB, Georgia

The Dolphins keep bolstering their offense with arguably the top offensive player left on the board. Swift and Tua Tagovailoa could make for an incredibly intriguing duo in Miami's backfield.

40. Houston Texans (from ARZ) - Grant Delpit, S, LSU

Delpit might have the best coverage skills of any safety in this draft. His ability to play either in the box or up high will provide a much-needed boost to the Texans' secondary.

41. Cleveland Browns - Ashtyn Davis, S, California

With only Karl Joseph, Andrew Sendejo, and Sheldrick Redwine to speak of at safety, the Browns could use a ball-hawing defender at the back of their stop unit.

42. Jacksonville Jaguars - Tee Higgins, WR, Clemson

Higgins probably shouldn't still be available at this spot. The Jaguars happily take advantage, adding a big-bodied playmaker opposite 2019 breakout star DJ Chark.

43. Chicago Bears (from LV) - Antoine Winfield Jr., S, Minnesota

Winfield is a high-level playmaker who will pair extremely well with Eddie Jackson after the Bears lost Ha Ha Clinton-Dix in free agency.

44. Indianapolis Colts - Jeremy Chinn, S, Southern Illinois

An impressive athlete with the versatility to line up and contribute all over the field, Chinn drew some first-round buzz leading up to the draft. The Colts could use such a player in a thin secondary.

45. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Michael Pittman Jr., WR, USC

More ammo for Tom Brady. Standing 6-foot-4, Pittman will make the Buccaneers' scoring unit even more dangerous.

46. Denver Broncos - Jaylon Johnson, CB, Utah

Improving in the passing game remains the theme for the Broncos here, only this time on the defensive side of the ball. Johnson will step right in as a starting corner following the departure of Chris Harris Jr.

47. Atlanta Falcons - Justin Madubuike, DT, Texas A&M

After nabbing AJ Terrell in Round 1, the Falcons address their second-biggest need on defense with Madubuike. The Texas A&M product is the perfect gap penetrator to slot in beside Grady Jarrett.

48. New York Jets - Laviska Shenault, WR, Colorado

The Jets did well to upgrade Sam Darnold's pass protection in the first round; next on the to-do list is getting him a playmaker at receiver. Shenault is a fascinating prospect who can both stretch the field and destroy defenses after the catch.

49. Pittsburgh Steelers - Lucas Niang, OT, TCU

With few weaknesses heading into the 2020 campaign, Mike Tomlin and Co. can address their right tackle position in this draft. If Niang is healthy, he'll provide an instant upgrade opposite Ali Villanueva.

50. Chicago Bears - Trevon Diggs, CB, Alabama

Corner is likely the Bears' most pressing need, and Diggs is a pro-ready talent who excels in press coverage.

51. Dallas Cowboys - Lloyd Cushenberry, C, LSU

The Cowboys recently lost Travis Frederick to retirement, but Cushenberry profiles as an ideal replacement in the middle of Mike McCarthy's potent offense.

52. Los Angeles Rams - Zack Baun, EDGE, Wisconsin

Baun is an explosive pass-rusher off the edge, and though he lacks the size for an every-down role on the line of scrimmage, his skill set will allow him to play off the ball before rotating down in passing situations. The Rams just so happen to have a need in both spots.

53. Philadephia Eagles - Willie Gay Jr., LB, Mississippi State

Gay fits the athletic profile the Eagles covet in their front seven and addresses one of the team's biggest needs. Philadelphia has none of its starting linebacker spots secured at the moment.

54. Buffalo Bills - Jonathan Taylor, RB, Wisconsin

The Bills won't have much to think about if Taylor is available at this spot. Considered by many to be the best running back in the draft, his ability between the tackles should make him the perfect complement to Devin Singletary.

55. Baltimore Ravens (from NE via ATL) - Terrell Lewis, EDGE, Alabama

After drafting LSU's Patrick Queen in Round 1, the Ravens return to their Alabama roots by selecting the high-upside Lewis. Baltimore must upgrade on the edge opposite Matthew Judon.

56. Miami Dolphins (from NO) - Kyle Dugger, S, Lenoir-Rhyne

Dugger will be facing a major jump in competition coming from a Division II program. Still, he has all the raw traits to develop into an impact player both in coverage and coming downhill against the run.

57. Los Angeles Rams (from HOU) - Darnay Holmes, CB, UCLA

The Rams opted not to exercise the 2020 option on Nickell Robey-Coleman's contract this offseason, and Holmes represents an ideal replacement for the veteran at slot cornerback.

58. Minnesota Vikings - Julian Okwara, EDGE, Notre Dame

The Vikings give Danielle Hunter a new running mate by adding one of the most athletic pass-rushers in this class. Okwara will need to develop more play strength to reach his ceiling, but his speed off the edge will allow him to make an impact from Day 1.

59. Seattle Seahawks - Jabari Zuniga, EDGE, Florida

The Seahawks covet length and athleticism at defensive end, and Zuniga possesses both. He'll offer intriguing explosiveness on the edge opposite 2019 first-rounder L.J. Collier.

60. Baltimore Ravens - KJ Hamler, WR, Penn State

As the Ravens look to surround Lamar Jackson with more playmakers, Hamler fits the bill as well as any other receiver. His size will limit him to a slot role, but he's an explosive athlete who separates at all levels of the field and can be a game-changer after the catch.

61. Tennessee Titans - Cameron Dantzler, CB, Mississippi State

A team can never have enough corners, and the Titans are already quite thin at the position. Dantzler should be an ideal fit on the perimeter of Dean Pees' defense.

62. Green Bay Packers - Cole Kmet, TE, Notre Dame

After spending a first-round pick on a quarterback, the Packers had better make an effort to improve Aaron Rodgers' weapons for the remainder of his tenure. Selecting Kmet should do exactly that, providing Rodgers a reliable target over the middle of the field.

63. Kansas City Chiefs (from SF) - Ross Blacklock, DL, TCU

The Chiefs may not be able to keep Chris Jones for 2020 or beyond, so drafting an insurance policy on Day 2 wouldn't hurt. Blacklock is arguably the top player available here as well.

64. Seattle Seahawks (from KC) - Ezra Cleveland, OT, Boise State

A developmental lineman with rare athleticism for the position, Cleveland was getting some first-round hype before the draft. The Seahawks should be thrilled if they can get a player with that kind of upside at a position of need to close out the second round.
