The news came shortly after the 49ers pulled off a trade with the Washington Redskins for seven-time Pro Bowler Trent Williams.
Staley spent his entire 13-year career with the 49ers, who drafted him 28th overall out of Central Michigan. He earned six Pro Bowl nods and was a second-team All-Pro selection three times.
The 35-year-old was limited to seven games in the regular season last year because of a broken fibula and later a fractured finger. He's battled other ailments over his lengthy career.
Staley contemplated retirement in previous years but inked a two-year extension last offseason that kept him signed through the 2021 season.
