ACPI not detected by WindowMaker applications

Hello there,
First off, my apologies if this is in the wrong board or if I messed something up as this is my first post. With that out of the way I recently installed Slackware 14.2 onto an old Asus Eee PC 1000HE today. I am using WindowMaker as my default windows manager and was trying to install a dockable application to allow me to see the computer's battery life. I tried building and installing pretty much every application that is listed at the following website but all of them complained about the kernel not supporting ACPI or about a lack of a power subsystem. I followed the guide here and made sure to pass the correct parameters to the kernel to enable ACPI, and I also installed AlienBOB's EeePC ACPI scripts but neither of these steps seemed to solve the issue. Interestingly enough, the acpi command seems to work and reports the battery life correctly. Any advice on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
