grub console - asking for videoinfo or vbeinfo crashes grub
by g4njawizard from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5326H)
Hello,
I wanted to edit the resolution of my grub menu, because it stucks at low resolution and u can barely see the kernel versions. As I red online, you can only set the Resolution, if its supported by grub and you can only find that out, if you enter the real grub.
Unfortunately every time I enter videoinfo or vbeinfo, the screen turns black for a couple of seconds and then returns back to the console. Both commands dont provide any output and I cant do anything from there except rebooting with ctrl+alt+del. The Default resolution from grub seems to be 640x480. I dont want to set another Resolution, if I dont know if its supported by grub.
The Version is GNU GRUB 2.04
I checked the BIOS Settings on my Lenovo ThinkPad, but they seem ok. "BIOS GRAPHICS Memory= 512" Boot= Legacy only and CSM on.
Thanks Forward for any help
edit: I played a bit around and changed the GRUB_GFXMODE to 1920:1080.
I've set the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=Video=1920x1080.
These Settings seem to affect only the Linux bootlog and Luks Password window.
