Report: Telvin Smith pleads not guilty to unlawful sexual activity with minor

Former Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Telvin Smith pleaded not guilty to charges of unlawful sexual activity with an underage girl, according to a filing obtained by First Coast News.

Smith was arrested and bonded out of jail on May 1. He reportedly also waived his arraignment and right to be present at pretrial hearings.

According to the arrest warrant, Smith allegedly had sex with a 17-year-old girl on multiple occasions at his Jacksonville home and in his car. The warrant stated that Smith knew the girl was underage and indicated that her DNA was found in the back seat of the linebacker's car.

Police raided Smith's mansion in Queens Harbor and confiscated his car four months before making the arrest.

In Florida, unlawful sexual activity with certain minors is a second-degree felony. It applies to any person over the age of 23 who engages in sexual activity with a 16-year-old or 17-year-old.

Smith abruptly walked away from the NFL prior to the 2019 campaign, though he didn't say he was retiring.
