Silent salute on the 75th anniversary of VE-Day in Hamilton
Maybe it's fitting, and just, that after so many decades of military parades, flyovers and dancing to Big Band music on the anniversary of VE-Day, this one, the 75th, is being commemorated with silence, exactly the way it's been for more than 70 million people who lost their lives in the Second World War.
The COVID-19 pandemic has understandably muted this anniversary - almost certainly the last milestone for the few men and women alive who lived through that six-year war that so defined this city and its people.
Rather than the type of celebrations we saw on Main Street on May 8, 1945 or the big Glenn Miller dances that honoured veterans and their families that we've proudly embraced in the past, the lack of that, save for some lonely pipers and private observances, gives the rest of us a better sense than ever what it's like to be alone, scared and facing the unknown.
Take some time to do just that today as you look back at these images of Hamilton since VE-Day.
