Weird Alt+Tab window-switching behaviour in Cinnamon

I am used to the typical Alt+Tab way of switching windows in Xcfe and KDE... pretty much the same as you would expect in most systems, I think... even MSWin... yech! You press Alt+Tab and you switch to the last active window. If you keep Alt down, you'll see a pop-up where you can select exactly which window you want. Now, Cinnamon seems to behave differently and either something is wrong or I'm not understanding the idea very well.

Half the time, it works as expected, but sometimes, if I have several windows open, Alt+Tab seems to have worked, but upon releasing Alt, it returns to the same window. Also, there seems to be something related to which window the mouse cursor is hovering on, yet it's not clear what the rule is. When a window is "minimised" or otherwise not seen, of course, there is no way I can hover it, so it wouldn't make sense to me that one had to hover a window to select it.

Is anybody familiar with this behaviour? Do you think it's a bug or do you know how I'm supposed to use it?latest?d=yIl2AUoC8zA latest?i=bDq5pT3dPR8:oSluilKWEao:F7zBnMy latest?i=bDq5pT3dPR8:oSluilKWEao:V_sGLiP latest?d=qj6IDK7rITs latest?i=bDq5pT3dPR8:oSluilKWEao:gIN9vFwbDq5pT3dPR8
