Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich doesn't think quarterback Philip Rivers' stint with the team will last only one season.

"I can just tell you I really believe it's Philip's intent to play multiple years (with the Colts)," Reich said Monday, according to Zak Keefer of The Athletic. "I'm very optimistic it will be a multiple-year thing."

The Colts signed Rivers to a one-year, $25-million deal in free agency after the signal-caller spent 16 seasons with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers.

Rivers, who will turn 39 years old in December, built a decorated career with the Chargers but is coming off one of his worst campaigns. The eight-time Pro Bowler amassed 23 touchdowns against 20 interceptions, and the team finished with a 5-11 record.

In March, Rivers didn't rule out playing beyond the 2020 campaign. He's agreed to become the head football coach at St. Michael Catholic High School in Fairhope, Alabama, when he retires.

The Colts lost Andrew Luck prior to the beginning of last season when he surprisingly retired. Jacoby Brissett stepped up as the starting quarterback but failed to lead Indianapolis to the playoffs.

Brissett is now set to return to the backup role with Rivers' arrival. The Colts also have quarterback Jacob Eason, a fourth-round rookie out of Washington.
