installing NVidia drivers on Debian Testing?
by Herve5 from LinuxQuestions.org on (#53PFH)
I am trying to install the driver on a brand new Lenovo Thinkpad P53 with Debian Testing.
I understand this clearly departs from the Lenovo supported standard, which is Debian LTS, and is documented here : https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/m...ion_v1.0.1.pdf
And indeed I do hit an issue : the Lenovo script stops immediately, announcing its driver is not compatible with what they call the "Nouveau" driver (?).
The script then proposes to write something somewhere (see below), and I didn't dare do this immediately.
ERROR : The Nouveau kernel driver is currently in use by your system.
This driver is not compatible with the NVIDIA driver, and must be disabled before proceeding.
Please consult the NVIDIA driver Readme and your Linux distribution's documentation for details on how to correctly disable the Nouveau kernel driver [OK]
then
For some distributions, Nouveau can be disabled by adding a file in the modprobe configuration directly.
Would you like nvidia-installer to attempt to create this modprobe file for you?
I'd like to know if someone here managed to install NVidia script NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-440.82.run onto Debian testing... or if I have to abandon Testing and get back to LTS...
Thank you!!
Herve
