Can ffmpeg toggle subtitles in videos on or off?

Hello all,

I have a question about ffmpeg.

I can add subtitles with -vf "subtitles=subtitle.srt" to a video, but the subtitles are hard-coded into the video.

Is there a option to toggle the subtitles on or off when watching the video?
