Hamilton police nab Highway 6 stunt driver flying high
Hamilton police say a Kitchener man was nabbed flying high along Highway 6 early Thursday and now faces several charges.
Around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday (May 28) a Hamilton officer was driving northbound on Highway 6 when he saw an ongoing vehicle had crossed over the centre line and was headed at a rate that was more than the posted speed limit.
Once the vehicle passed the fully marked cruiser, the officer changed his direction and caught up a short time later as the suspect driver was held up with traffic. Police say he was moving at 144 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone.
Through interaction with the driver, police believed he was operating his vehicle while under the influence of a drug and noted evidence of cannabis in the immediate area of the driver's seat. Police seized cannabis rolled cigarettes and liquid cannabis products.
A 42-year-old Kitchener man faces charges of speeding, stunt driving, unlawful purchase of cannabis, operate motor vehicle with cannabis readily available. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, October 5, 2020.
Although the recent driving campaign Project Recalibrate is now over, police say they will remain vigilant in traffic enforcement for public safety.
