Wifi not working on one computer, but working on another computer with same distro
by Derekiya from LinuxQuestions.org on (#546TC)
Hi
I have a HP Pavilion Notebook - 17-g161no. I have tried booting several versions of linux on it (live image on usb). But the wifi doesn't work. The network manager says that wifi is enabled, but the nm-applet isn't listing any wifi even though I know there are several in the area. And I've even walked around town to no avail. I tried booting linux mint 17.1 Debian, because that's what I run on my other computer where the wifi works fine. I've looked at bios updates, but I've not been able to find a bios image with the same name as the motherboard id on hps website.
All ideas and suggestions are welcome, I realize that I have to visit a few dead ends before I resolve the issue, I already have.
Thanks for reading.
I don't know if tags are allowed to have a question mark, some of the tags are guesses, I don't really know if it's the bios fault.
