Upgrade 18.04 to 20.04 Run Time

I clicked UPDATE SOFTWARE (I think) and it came back with a msg "All Software Up To Date: You are on 18.04 would you like to upgrade to 20.04". First I shut down all programs and then said YES. That was Sunday, May 31, 2200. Today is Thursday, June 4 1830. That was 92 hours ago and it's still running......something.
Has anyone else upgraded from 18.04 to 20.04 and do you know how long it ran. The upgrade process does not tell you anything worthwhile that is going on or its progress or maybe even estimated completion date. So I have no idea whether it's actually doing the upgrade or in some kind of terminal loop. At this point I'm afraid to shut it down and possibly lose 18.04.
