Step-by-step you will see my heart for exactly what it is and the way everyone around me sees it. I'm sorry it has taken this long to act and to participate in a meaningful way but I am your ally in this fight.

"I know there's not much I can say that could make things any better right now, but I just want you to see in my eyes how sorry I am," Brees said in a video posted on Instagram.

The 41-year-old said Wednesday that he would "never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America or our country" in a protest. His statement was met with widespread anger and disgust among the passer's NFL peers.

Brees posted an Instagram apology on Thursday morning before following it up with the video later in the evening.

"I'm sorry, and I will do better, and I will be part of the solution, and I am your ally," he said.
