Slackware "speed-up trick"?

I found a couple of little tricks that I learned from the Vector Linux website which I hope will help to maybe streamline the process of installing packages which can be found here: http://forum.vectorlinux.com/index.php?topic=19252.0

And for packages ending with "tar.gz" or "tar.xz", don't use the "j" in the command line.
