Hey all,

I have been trying without avail to get things working with this laptop and Slackware.

Just to rehash, I have a laptop with the following specs:
i7-9750H
GTX 1650 (mobile)
32 GB RAM

On multiple kernels (4.4.14, 5.4.45, 5.6.17) I can successfully install proprietary NVIDIA drivers. I have done it with multiple combinations and I have done it with SBoPkg. (4.4.14 + 440.82, 5.4.45 + 418.113, 5.4.45 + 440.82, 5.6.17 + 440.82)

The result, however, is the same. I can get X to come up and it works well. No screen-tearing, everything looks ok. But I can no longer switch to TTYs, nor can I hibernate, because it breaks everything.

Switching to a TTY gives me an entirely blank screen. If I switch back to the X TTY (CTRL + ALT + F7), Xorg is utterly broken. The screen is distorted and blacked out. I can make out some details but it is massively broken. The same result when I try to resume from suspend. I have spent some serious time trying to resolve this issue. I have built multiple kernels, tried different versions of Slack, but I have the same result every time.

Here are some other things I tried that did not work:
  • Entering 'nomodeset' in elilo.conf
  • Blacklisting nouveau
  • vga=normal in elilo.conf
  • video=vesa: off in elilo.conf
  • nvidia-drm.modeset=1 in elilo.conf
The only thing that I have working is to do modesetting NVIDIA with the Intel card active, but that brings its own smorgasbord of issues, so I would really prefer to not utilize that method.

Some other helpful information:
  • NVIDIA 440.82 does indeed work with the 1650 (mobile) because my X session is beautiful and perfect on Gentoo (different drive)
  • Nouveau does not support this card
  • Using the Intel graphics leads to some pretty bad screen tearing, even after enabling multiple "solutions" in xorg.conf.d
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.latest?d=yIl2AUoC8zA latest?i=ATDjtpaHK4Y:47_RPd7U8AI:F7zBnMy latest?i=ATDjtpaHK4Y:47_RPd7U8AI:V_sGLiP latest?d=qj6IDK7rITs latest?i=ATDjtpaHK4Y:47_RPd7U8AI:gIN9vFwATDjtpaHK4Y
