Report: NFL, NFLPA considering shorter 2020 preseason

The NFL and NFL Players Association are discussing the possibility of a shortened preseason due to the COVID-19 crisis, sources told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Executives from multiple teams reportedly believe the exhibition slate will be cut in half from four games to two.

The move would be made to allow a longer "ramp-up" period for players who may not arrive to training camp in the same type of physical condition they normally do because of workout restrictions. Additionally, medical experts would have more time to finalize game-day protocols for testing, equipment handling, locker room setups, and more.

The NFL has traditionally played a four-game preseason but is already on track to move to a three-game docket in 2021 when the new collective bargaining agreement takes effect.
