Debian 10 GUI randomly not responding
by Koles from LinuxQuestions.org on (#54NQD)
Hello Linux friends,
I'm having some serious problems with Debian 10, I downloaded it from here:
https://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd...amd64/iso-dvd/
all 3 DVDs, checked the MD5, burned and verified.
I've been using Gnome, Gnome original, Cinamon and one of the other desktops (can't remember which one) for a while and randomly (really can't figure out any pattern here that would trigger this), some parts of the interface become unclickable, for example I can't move windows or click it's elements, even though mouse pointer moves. Even Super key doesn't work or the top bar cannot be clicked. Sometimes closing some windows with alt + F4 or restarting the desktop with alt + F2, "r" and Enter helps. I though this was some Gnome related issue, but the same thing happens on Cinamon or even on the main login screen - it happened just once that the top bar was unclickable. Does it sound like some graphic driver problem? Well I'm not sure about this since the Super key or even some other keys may stop working sometimes. I don't know much about Linux yet, but maybe the problem is in some graphical layer that manages user interface... is that X Window? If so than very bad from Linux... so many serious errors, not only this... how to trust this thing? However I want this thing to WORK.
My hardware is Lenovo ThinkPad T520 and I never had such issues on Windows 7, so it's not the hardware I suppose. During installation of Debian it showed information that some firmware (or something) is missing, but I didn't get the screenshot. I know this sentence doens't sound correct, but it was something about firmware and something missing.
What do you suggest to do next?
Thank you,
Koles
