More than 30 puppies were discovered dead after an international airline flight landed at the Toronto Pearson Airport last weekend.

The Ukraine International Airlines flight was carrying more than 500 puppies in its cargo on June 13, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's statement Friday.

According to a spokesperson, the animals on the flight suffered from dehydration and vomiting. Thirty-eight of them were found dead.

CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) officials are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident and will determine next steps once the investigation is complete."

The airline published a statement on Facebook, offering condolences.

Everyone at UIA offers its condolences for the tragic loss of animal life on our flight," the statement said.

UIA is working with local authorities to determine what happened and to make any changes necessary to prevent such a situation from occurring again.
