Any way to recover from a COMPLETE system freeze?
by road hazard from LinuxQuestions.org on (#54V1J)
I was running Mint 19.3 for a while and my system would completely lock up once or twice a month. Turns out, my boot SSD was failing and that was the culprit.
I have since replaced that SSD with a brand new one and switched to pure Debian 10. A few minutes ago, I experienced the same sort of complete system freeze. I couldn't SSH into the box and it wasn't responding to mouse/keyboard input. Couldn't switch to another terminal, nothing. Been using Debian 10 for 3? 4? months with no issue. It's just Plex media server that runs 24x7 and does a daily reboot every morning.
Sure, my new SSD might be going bad (highly doubt it) and I checked in the kern/message/syslog files around the time of the lock up and nothing stands out.
CPU temps are typically about 40C at idle (7700K cpu) and 70C under load so don't think it's a CPU overheat problem.
Any troubleshooting tips from the pros on how to find out what caused this and how to recover if it happens again? I'm thinking maybe another hardware problem is brewing since the entire system was frozen.
