sOLVED But I Don't know Why

Now well into my 92 year I find that I have'nt the patience or the will to sort out computer problems. But as I'm now quite deaf I need to be on-line much more. For years I have plodded on with a very old machine, which I bought second hand. It only had 1 Gig ram and a low capacity HD. But when it finally gave up the ghost I bought a refurb Dell OptiPlex 7010 SFF Core i3, 8GB 1TB HD for 110. I bought a new keyboard at the same time. With which I decided to upgrade from Mint 17 to Mint 20. - Big mistake - well for me anyway. To get it to perform the way I wanted involved far too much tweaking. Tried Mint 19.3, which still needed a fair amount of tweaking. So I'm back into running Mint 17.
But here's the real story. Using Mint 20 and Mint 19 I could'nt log in here. Have'nt figured out why, but the system did'nt seem to recognise what I was keying in. But with the Mint 17 I've had no problems.
