Hamilton firefighters had to break through the window of a car Monday night to retrieve a one-year-old child who was accidentally left locked inside.

Crews responded to the area of Montmorency Drive off Mount Albion Road where the car was parked just after 7 p.m.

The child, whose mother lost the keys to the car, had been locked inside for less than 10 minutes, said Hamilton Paramedic Service Supt. Dave Thompson.

It was accidental and the mom did the right thing and called for help right away," he said.

Thompson said the child was in good spirits and happy" after being rescued.
