Touchpad issue on boot

I am currently running latest Debian 10 on a Lenovo E50 laptop and find that the touchpad is not active after booting but if the laptop is closed, note not closed down, and then reopened after a few seconds the touchpad now works fine.
This leads me to believe that whatever software is involved with the touchpad is not activated at boot but is activated after opening laptop.
Please tell me how I go about repairing this.
