I have a odd problem with a new Debian install / terminal.

I just installed Debian 10.4 but installed several desktop`s by mistake instead of just cinnamon thinking i could choose the best of the group but this is the problem...It has several terminals but none will work when i try to upgrade or install something using the cli in a terminal because it will not take my password but if i need to authenticate for some reason it takes the password...Can anybody figure this out - provide a solution ?
