Cinnamon or Mate when changing to LM20?

I doubtlessly plan on upgrading in the future,
but wanted to recommend the same machine I'm using to a few people soon because of its size and convenience, and was wondering for them as well as myself...
Im currently looking at:
8Gigs RAM
120Gigs ROM

Will using Mate instead of Cinnamon make any kind of considerable difference if I don't have many heavy programs? Will it limit me with apps, packages, etc.?
