Help me with slackware configuration on ThinkPad x230
by dubiousa from LinuxQuestions.org on (#55P4Z)
Hi guys,
i have been using manjaro as a noobuser for long time now on my thinkpad x250.
Now i have decided to make slackware my new hobby, because i really want to understand what is going on under the hood of my system, and also to get a better understanding of how linux works, so bought a x230 thinkpad just for this undertaking - planning on using slackware only - but only when my system understanding is deep enough.
Have SSD, 12 GB of RAM, installed -current with an extra /home and extra /usr/local partition, created an user account, updated from a server in china, as the austrian 2 didn't work, created the generic kernel boot, all is working fine.
I have 2 questions:
1 - My X230 Slackware has a somewhat terrible horizontal screen tearing when scrolling websites or textfiles. Can you help me with that?
On my manjaro laptop - inxi command - shows Graphics with OpenGL renderer Mesa
and unloaded: modesetting
What would the command on my slackware system be to read out comparable information? What drivers do i need?
The second question is:
I do not really understand the process of slackbuilds or compiling from scratch. Is there some noob how-to where nothing is ommitted? For example - where should i unpack the files - or does it not matter?
I would need to install chromium, notepadqq..
Thanks a lot for your help. (english is not my first language, so sry and don't send the grammar police lol)
