Washington's NFL franchise will call itself the Washington Football Team until a new name is chosen, the team announced Thursday.

The team will continue to use its trademark burgundy-and-gold color scheme, but helmets will be adorned with players' numbers instead of a logo.

These changes are not Washington's final rebranding after the team recently retired the Redskins name, notes Schefter.

Washington will not have any change to its color scheme. It will still use burgundy and gold. The Redskins logo on the helmet will be replaced by the player's number in gold. The Washington Football Team will debut its home uniforms in week 1 against the Eagles. pic.twitter.com/8DpC6b0Tyj

Washington hopes to retire all physical and digital iterations of the Redskins name prior to its Sept. 12 season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles, Schefter reports.

While the Washington Football Team uses these uniforms and helmets for the 2020 season, it will be seeking the feedback of players, alumni, fans, sponsors and the community for the new team name it will use at some point in the future, per sources.

Washington decided to drop the Redskins name after intense pressure from team sponsors including FedEx, which owns the naming rights to the franchise's stadium.

The rebrand also comes amid allegations of a toxic environment within the NFC East team's front office.

Fifteen women who previously worked for Washington accused executives of sexual harassment and/or verbal abuse in an explosive report published last week.

Owner Dan Synder, who reportedly won't be forced to sell the franchise, vowed to change his team's culture following the report's publication.
