Constantly getting disconnected from wifi (Can't get in at all)

Hello, I'm using kali linux through a thumb drive on a PC with a USB wireless adapter. The wifi options show up and I try to connect to my wifi but then it says the network has been disconnected" but I wasn't even connected in the first place. Please help I'm completely new to this and I can't find any solutions thanks.
