Does the GIMP work with fonts/text on your machines?

Hello, everyone.
On my machine, I'm not able to add any text to an image in the GIMP, it complains:
Code: GIMP Error
Due to lack of any fonts, text functionality is not available.I added the system font directories to the GIMP preferences, and also tried copying files into the
Code:/home/lockywolf/.config/GIMP/2.10/fontsBut this does not seem to help.
Does it works on your machines? Any debugging suggestions?
Slackware -current.
