Looking for suggestions..

Hey all! :)
I've ran into a snag that's outside of the scope of this forum (It has nothing to do with Linux or anything else GNU), but the folks I've ran into on here have an incredibly diverse pool of knowledge, so I figured I would ask anyway.
Does anybody know of a good place to go to cuss, discuss and learn about things DVR? A friend of mine bought one and we've on and off for a year been trying to get the app on his phone to connect to it. I just spent a day going over everything in his office from the staples in the carpet to the firewall in his modem/router combo. The only stone left un-turned I guess is to take a stool sample from his dog and send it to NASA to test for extraterrestrial interference. I'm at a complete loss..
Anyways, thank you guys/gals if you have any suggestions! (Also, machine translators have came a long way, so even if the sites you know of are in Russian or another language, I'll make due! :D)
