Postfix issue

Hi, I am using Postfix 3.1.12 (official Debian package).
Today I noticed an unexpected large queue (> 2000 messages), while normally I have about 30.
I tried to send a message, and it has been delivered immediately.
So I ran postsuper -r ALL, and all messages started to being delivered.
I am trying to figure WHY I needed to use postsuper -r ALL to solve this issue, without changing any configuration or restarting any service.
Any suggestion?
