Man in hospital after stabbing at Main Street East assisted living home
Hamilton police are searching for a 23-year-old woman after an alleged unprovoked stabbing inside a Main Street East residential facility that left a man with life-threatening injuries.
The 35-year-old victim is in stable condition after the attack around 1 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18 at Jerelday Lodge, 418 Main St. E., between Victoria Avenue South and Wentworth Street South.
Jamie Lee Saulteaux is wanted for aggravated assault and possession of a dangerous weapon.
The victim and suspect are believed to have been hanging out in a room when the unprovoked attack happened, said Const. Jerome Stewart, adding that it happened in a matter of moments."
Police responded immediately, but the suspect had already fled.
Police moved quickly to release a photo of Saulteaux Tuesday morning out of concern for public safety, Stewart said. The weapon has not been recovered.
If Saulteaux is spotted police advise not to approach, but call 911 immediately.
She's described as a 23-year-old woman, five-foot-two, 148 pounds, with a medium complexion and multiple tattoos on her face, neck and body. There is no clothing description.
According to online listings Jerelday Lodge is a 12-bed residential facility that offers care for seniors, people with disabilities or others who cannot live on their own.
