On boot-up, loud repetitive short beeps, can only boot via live USB

Strange, when I try to boot the laptop, I get these very loud, fast repetitive beeps, like a machine-gun. The laptop won't boot, it just sits there giving these annoying beeps. Fortunately, I can boot into a live Puppy Linux USB, and everything is operational. In fact, I am using that Puppy live USB right now, as I post this.
I can access everything in the various Linux partitions. And I was able to access the partition I was working on yesterday and copy the files I saved to hard disk. That was an antiX Linux partition.
I am attaching some screenshots from the very rich Puppy utilities to give you an idea of my environment. Although the screenshots do not show this, my BIOS is from American Megatrends. I looked up the beep codes for AMI, and it appears that constant long beeps indicate a problem with RAM. A couple weeks ago I did install a new stick of 8 GB RAM, but I have not had any problems with it. Also I thought it might be a problem with CPU temps, but as you can see from the Puppy reports, CPU temps are normal at about 49 degrees Centigrade. It could also be a hard drive failing. After all, the system is 7 years old.
Thanks for your help.
