Masks mandatory for JK to Grade 12 in Hamilton’s Catholic schools
The Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board is mandating all of its students - from junior kindergarten to Grade 12 - wear masks come September.
Board trustees voted unanimously in favour of a motion Thursday that will make it required of students to wear non-medical masks or face coverings while in school.
The decision, which is subject to reasonable exceptions, was made in consultation with public health to protect students when physical distancing may not be possible, the board said in a press release.
Board trustees also voted unanimously in favour of a second motion that will stagger the reopening of its elementary schools.
The board said reopening will be staggered over the first two weeks of classes to afford students the time to learn new routines and for health and safety practices to be reinforced.
Information on the mandated wearing of masks and staggered schedules will be shared with parents and staff as soon as possible, the board said.
