The final weekend of August is here, so get your summertime fun in while you still can.

There are plenty of family activities around the city - weather permitting - to kick-start September.

Saturday is expected to be wet, with a high of 24 C and more showers likely overnight.

Sunday is looking to be mild with a mix of sun and clouds and a high of 22 C.

Fly me to the weekend

The fun starts Friday at Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum. Their Night at the Museum event, from 5 to 9 p.m., promises a barbecue dinner, followed by flying activities.

Tour the historic aircraft. Learn about flight at a live show. And experience the museum's gallery through a scavenger hunt.

Advanced registration is required at warplane.com for this $25 event, for adults and kids over four.

Masks are also required.

Local makers get together for a market mash-up

Visit Ancaster Fairgrounds Saturday for a market melange. Pet Lovers' Market, the Artisan Bazaar and the Gluten Free Goodness Expo are getting together for MRKT Mash-Up.

The pet-friendly market will feature handmade goodies for your furry friends and goodies for you too.

Admission to the 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. market is $5, children under 12 get in for free, and registration and time slot selection is required on hamilton.snapd.com.

Say hello to the aviary's flock

Have a close encounter and learn about the birds at Friends of the Aviary's Meet the Flock event.

Visit Canada's oldest public aviary" Saturday from 12 to 4 p.m. for an open house with demonstrations and photo opportunities.

Or, book a private appointment at hamiltonaviary.com.

Masks and alcohol hand sanitizer is required.

A movie, but with animals

Movies with Animals is back at Triple C Farm after taking a pandemic hiatus.

This Saturday at 8:30 p.m., watch the classic film Princess Bride" while snuggling with goats, sheep, pigs, alpacas, cows and perhaps a donkey or two.

Tickets for the movie are $22.60 and you can purchase them on triplecfarm.ca.

Bring a lawn chair or blankets and don't forget your mask.

Take a walk

Check out one of two guided tours Sunday hosted by Tour Guys.

First take a downtown Hamilton tour, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., starting at the Hamilton GO Centre lobby on Hunter Street. Led by a local history expert," the tour will look at the city's industrial past and the progress made to get us where we are.

Later, the same group will host a waterfront tour, from 2 to 3:30 p.m., starting at Williams Fresh Cafe at Pier 8. The tour will explore the history of the industrial harbour ... and its dark past as a hub for prohibition era rum-runners.

Both tours are billed as free, though a pay-what-you-can tip is suggested. Registration is required with a credit card at fareharbor.com/tourguys-hamilton. And, the website says, a no-show fee" will be charged for cancellations.
