Left tackle Riley Reiff accepted a restructured contract to avoid being released by the Minnesota Vikings, sources told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport.

The Vikings asked Reiff to take a pay cut after the Yannick Ngakoue trade, which ate up nearly all of Minnesota's remaining cap space. Ngakoue lowered his 2020 salary from $17.78 million to $12 million to facilitate the trade, but the Vikings were still in a financial bind.

Initially, Reiff appeared unenthusiastic about the Vikings' request, and reportedly told teammates Monday he was going to be cut. His agent began seeking out potential trades that night, according to Rapoport, leaving his future in Minnesota up in the air Tuesday morning.

"Well, we'll just have to see today, won't we?" head coach Mike Zimmer said Tuesday before practice when asked about the veteran's status, according to Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press.

Reiff is entering his fourth year with the Vikings. He signed a five-year deal worth $58.75 million with Minnesota in March 2017 after playing the first five seasons of his career with the Detroit Lions.

Had Reiff been released, Rashod Hill and second-round rookie Ezra Cleveland were candidates to move into the starting lineup.
