Lions, Decker agree to 6-year, $85M extension

Detroit Lions offensive tackle Taylor Decker agreed to a six-year, $85-million contract extension that includes $37.5 million in guaranteed money, his agency announced Tuesday.

Decker is now set to earn $14.16 million annually, which ranks eighth among left tackles, according to Spotrac. The Houston Texans' Laremy Tunsil is tops at the position at $22 million per year following a record-breaking extension he signed earlier this offseason.

The new pact includes one voidable year, meaning Decker is tied to the club for the next five seasons, and he'll earn $15 million annually starting in 2021, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The 27-year-old has been the Lions' primary starter at left tackle since the team drafted him 16th overall in 2016. After appearing in all 16 games as a rookie, the Ohio State product missed eight contests in his sophomore campaign. But he's stayed mostly healthy since, sitting out just one game in the last two seasons.

The 2019 season was his second-best campaign, trailing only his rookie year, according to PFF. He allowed 35 pressures and seven sacks over 653 pass-blocks snaps.

Detroit picked up the fifth-year option on Decker's rookie contract in 2019.
