Cowboys release Clinton-Dix
The Dallas Cowboys released veteran safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix on Thursday, the team announced.
Clinton-Dix joined the Cowboys last March on a one-year deal worth $3.75 million ($2.25-million guaranteed) after a one-season stint with the Chicago Bears in 2019.
The one-time Pro Bowler racked up 78 tackles, five pass breakups, and two interceptions over 16 starts last year.
Clinton-Dix, 27, entered the NFL as a 2014 first-round selection by the Green Bay Packers and played four-plus seasons with the club before being traded to the Washington Football Team in 2018.
Dallas has failed to build a strong secondary in recent years and the unit suffered major hits in free agency, losing cornerback Byron Jones and safety Jeff Heath.
The Cowboys have been tabbed as one of the best destinations for star free-agent safety Earl Thomas after the Baltimore Ravens released him in August.
Owner Jerry Jones recently denied reports that his team wouldn't make a push for Thomas, saying he's still considering the possibility of adding the seven-time Pro Bowler.
