Super zoomed-in/scaled screen after updates...

Sorry for the really nebulous description I really don't know what other words to use here, but: following updating one of my Ubuntu 20.04 LTS machines to the latest the other day, whenever the machine reboots the log-in and desktop are super zoomed in (like over 200% scaling). All settings for scaling/zoom/accessibility are off (nothing changed there). The only way to 'fix' is to log in, and then turn on scaling (again it insists it is all off), set that to 200% (which makes everything too big to use), and then set it back to 100% and things then work right. This is fully unserviceable for regular use, so before I chalk this up as a fried update and nuke the install is there anything I can look at? I don't see anything in GNOME Tweaks or System Settings related to zoom/scaling/accessibility that's enabled. And google is all but worthless because you type 'zoom' in and its just wall-to-wall videoconferencing...

EDIT
Oh and I also checked in the nVidia X Server Settings (its running 440) and nothing there is setup for zoom/enlarge/scale/etc either - as far as all settings show the machine is 100% non-scaled/fully basic everything 'just works' and yet here we are.latest?d=yIl2AUoC8zA latest?i=Q3Q_tw9LSzY:nVkMuA3bkyo:F7zBnMy latest?i=Q3Q_tw9LSzY:nVkMuA3bkyo:V_sGLiP latest?d=qj6IDK7rITs latest?i=Q3Q_tw9LSzY:nVkMuA3bkyo:gIN9vFwQ3Q_tw9LSzY
