Michael Forest Reinoehl, the man suspected of shooting and killing Aaron "Jay" Danielson during a night of rowdy protests in Portland, Oregon, was himself shot dead last night by police moving to arrest him.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Marshals service reports that Reinoehl, 48, drew a gun on federal officers when they confronted him outside his residence in Lacey, Wa.

Lt. Ray Brady of the Thurston County Sheriff's Office told the New York Times that Reinoehl was shot after he had exited his apartment and got into a vehicle.

"As they attempted to apprehend him, there was gunfire," Brady told the Times, adding that four officer fired their weapons.

Brady told the Associated Press that the officers who fired included two Pierce County Sheriff's deputies, an officer from the Lakewood Police Department and an officer from the Washington State Department of Corrections.

Danielson was fatally shot last week during protests in nearby Portland, Oregon, with only shaky and indistinct footage available to investigators. Though Reinhoehl was quickly identified as a suspect, he was not immediately arrested, leading to angry tweets from Trump and growing pressure from conservative lawmakers. The reported arrest attempt came after an interview with Vice Magazine in which Reinoehl admitted to the killing, claiming it was an act of self-defense.
