The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to release cornerback Sidney Jones, their second-round pick in 2017, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Jones struggled with injuries throughout his time in Philadelphia, appearing in just 22 of a possible 48 games. When healthy, his play wavered.

The Eagles made several moves to address their leaky secondary over the offseason, using the trade market, free agency, and draft to acquire Darius Slay, Nickell Robey-Coleman, and K'Von Wallace, respectively, among others.

As a result, Jones and former third-round pick Rasul Douglas - who was reportedly also informed of his release - were thought to be on thin ice entering training camp.

With rosters needing to be trimmed to 53 players by Saturday at 4 p.m. ET, the Eagles are still looking to trade wide receiver Alshon Jeffery, sources told Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer. Jeffery's $9.91-million base salary and injury history are believed to be obstacles in a potential move.
