McCown rejoins Eagles as oldest practice squad player ever

The Philadelphia Eagles will again turn to Josh McCown if there's a quarterback emergency.

The 41-year-old signed with the Eagles' practice squad, the team announced.

McCown is the oldest practice squad player in NFL history. He will live at his home in Texas and make $12,000 a week, sources told Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The NFL altered its practice squad rules this offseason to allow clubs to stash veterans with more than two accrued seasons due to the uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The journeyman backed up Carson Wentz last season and finished the NFC East club's playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks when the starter suffered a head injury.

McCown tore his left hamstring during the game but remained in until its completion with no other quarterback available.

Originally drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in 2002, McCown has also spent time with the Detroit Lions, then-Oakland Raiders, Carolina Panthers, Chicago Bears, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cleveland Browns, and New York Jets.
