The New York Giants are set to release 2019 first-round pick DeAndre Baker this week, sources told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The cornerback was charged with four counts of armed robbery in early August and his trial is scheduled for Jan. 20, 2021. If convicted, he'll face a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and up to life in state prison.

The 23-year-old, who has been on the commissioner's exempt list since July, reportedly expected to be cut prior to Week 1.

In May, Baker and Seattle Seahawks cornerback Quinton Dunbar were arrested and accused of robbery in Miramar, Florida. Witnesses said Baker pointed a gun at attendees of a party and directed two other men, including Dunbar, to take their money and valuables. He also allegedly ordered another suspect to shoot an individual who entered during the incident.

Prosecutors declined to charge Dunbar, citing "insufficient evidence." Baker's attorney, Bradford Cohen, previously called the charges against his client "disgusting."

The Giants selected Baker with the 30th pick in 2019 following his standout career at Georgia.
