How do you enter the keyboard shortcut combination "Shift+5" in GIMP?

GIMP has some default shortcuts for zoom levels that are in the form of "Shift+[0-9]", e.g. "Shift+5" and "Shift+4".
But when I try to enter the key combination "Shift+4", for example, it registers as the special character "%". Using the number pad for the numeral key doesn't seem to work either.
So how do I enter "Shift+[0-9]"?
