How to set path in centOS 7 ?

I am trying to install WRF model on centOS 7. The user manual says that I have to set certain paths. How to do that ? On searching the google, it says to do it by .bashrc file, but whats that ? I am from civil engineering background and have no experience with working on Linux. Can anyone help me with this ?
